about mie

hello! my name is cherie and i’m just another girl who loves to make things, take pictures of my kid with the things i’ve made and then blog about it. i live in san francisco, california and am convinced it’s the best city in the world. my mom taught me how to sew when i was young and it’s become one of the only things i want to do. EVER.  i sew things for babies, kids and the home, but i love trying and learning new things.

about the name, “you & mie”:
mie is my middle name.  it is japanese and has been a part of my identity for a long time.  as a kid, I hated it because no one could pronounce it correctly.  as an adult, i’ve embraced it because it’s unique and is a symbol of my heritage.  most people pronounce it as “me,” which is why i named my shop “you & mie.”  it’s actually pronounced “mee-eh”

thank you so much for visiting my blog!  please take a moment to visit my etsy shop and my facebook page as well!

  1. Did you have a pattern for the little purple dress that you dyed after sewing it? It is
so darling, and your little girl is very precious in that outfit!!!!!

  2. Hello Cherie! Congrats on becoming Freshly Pressed! This blog is adorable. I love all the beautiful beautiful clothes that you have made and your little girl is sooo sweet! I’m following – hopefully I will dust off my sewing machine soon :) Have a lovely week!

  3. What a pleasure to find your blog tonight. In a crazy moment, I finally acted on my sewing urges and got a machine last week. I’m both petrified and thrilled to begin — thanks for the seeds of inspiration on your blog!

  4. Love your blog! It feels so cozy and real. Your daughter is beyond adorable and reminds me of my little girl, who is half an Anglophone me, and half Korean. Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your love of sewing and creativity. Living in Seoul, the clothes for children are trendy and cheap, but that’s just it..cheap. They quality is lacking and honestly, so is personality. I don’t want my daughter to look like everyone else on the playground. I’d love to read a blog post on recycled fabrics and/or how you use your scrap fabric! ^^

  5. With so much “mixed” marriages of interracial relationships (who produce the most beautiful babies!), it’s so important for everyone to keep their heritage, as not to lose our culture! I love your middle name, Mie! My husband and I (being from different cultural backgrounds) have agreed to keep our heritage with giving a “foreign” middle name tied to our culture to any future kids … :)
